Menu for Bon Appétit

July 11th, 2010  |  Published in Portfolio

At the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year, Goucher College opened their new library, the Athenaeum, which included Alice’s Restaurant, a new Bon Appétit cafe. The cafe was immediately popular with students, but long lines would accumulate several times a day.

The problem: Students didn’t understand the new menu at Alice’s, and the staff had to explain to each customer which menu items could be purchased with a meal block.

Design Solution

I met with the director of Goucher’s Bon Appétit food service, and proposed designing a large scale menu that would clearly and visually communicate meal plans to students. I was hired for the job and produced a forty four inch poster specifically designed for the space that matched the color, typography, and style of the restaurant. The menu helped students order more quickly, which increased the efficiency of the restaurant and allowed me to get my coffee in time for class.
